Dear Brothers and Sisters,
14 Years ago a masjid was established in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston by a few Somali brothers and sisters who sought tocreatea place to worship Allah (SWT) and raise a community filled with educated children and families. They rented a small house and immediately began teaching Quran and the fundamentals of Islamic education to all ages, from the very young to the very old.
Throughout the 14 years
this institution has been running, more than two dozenindividualsincluding men,
women, youth, and elderly have completed and memorized the entire 30 Juz of the
book of Allah (SWT). Despite the lack of space, every weekend this tiny
building holds hundreds ofstudents of all ages for their yearlong
intensive Quran and Islamiccourses. The Boston Islamic Center (BIC) no
doubt has been a home for hundreds of the community members who sought refuge
from the daily challenges of the common immigrant struggles.
BIC has been a healing home for the young
teens that were looking for a place to learn about their Creator and connect
with their friends at a deeply spiritual level. It has given our brothers an
alternate path from a destined life on the streets and provided our sisters
with a platform through an initiative called Strengthening Islamic Sisterhood
and BIC
The building we have been renting for 14 years, the one we have called home for so long, has been beyond our capacity for a long time and thus, we needed to find a new home as soon as possible. We have found a building on 50 Cedar Street, Roxbury, MA that contains 18000 square feet of land, including a parking lot that can hold 45-50 cars. Our parentsand teachers have been canvassing throughout Massachusetts this week fundraising. The money raised through this campaign will go towards buying and renovating the property.
It is our turn as youth to do our part. Please, with your generous donations, help Boston Islamic Center enlarge to create a sustainable and comfortable masjid for its growing membership base. It is time for Boston Islamic Center to grow will you be part of it?
"The Mosques of Allah shall be maintained only by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day; perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and give Zakat and fear none but Allah. It is they who are expected to be on true guidance” [at-Tawbah 9:18].
Ibn Maajah narrated from Jaabir ibn ‘Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever builds a mosque for the sake of Allah, like a sparrow’s nest or even smaller, Allaah will build for him a house in Paradise.”
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Among what continues to accrue for a believer of his good works after death are the following: knowledge that he learned and then imparted to others, a pious child whom he left behind, a copy of the Qur’ân that he bequeathed, a mosque that he built, a guest house he built for travelers, a river that he made to flow, and charity he spends from his wealth when he is in good health – all of this continues to avail him after his death.” [Sunan Ibn Majah]
